Today is National Peach Pie Day. After weeks of 90+ degree heat, the last thing I want to do is turn the oven on and cook a pie. I love summer. It resets my soul from the rainy, cold, cloudy Atlanta winters. But towards the end of August (i.e. now), I’m done with it. Goodbye, “thighs sticking to plastic seats” season. Goodbye, “circling the parking lot for 30 minutes looking for a shady spot” season. Autumn is the Southerners rewards for surviving summer. And we are ready for it. So, instead of a peach pie, I present you with…a peach cocktail.

Don’t get me wrong. If you want to make a peach pie and share it with me, I’d eat it. But standing in front of a hot oven on this sweltering summer day, that’s going to be a “no”. Evenings on the patio with chirping cicadas, dogs chasing each other, and a few minutes of cool air during the “blue hour” make for a perfect moment for this easy cocktail.
