Winter weather may have us home bound on this Sunday, but I’ve got a snuggly pup and a toasty fire!

Epiphany: “When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And after they came into the house, they saw the Child with His mother Mary; and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And after being warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, the magi left for their own country by another way.”

If you grew up in the 70s and 80s, then there’s a good chance your mom went to a ceramics class. I remember my mom bringing home a nativity set she’d painted, as well as a ceramic Easter basket full of ceramic Easter eggs. Well, wouldn’t ya know, in the 70s this Santa cookie jar was available to paint. Just like the jadeite cookie jar, the ceramic Santa cookie jar was modeled after the hugely popular Empire blow mold cookie jar of the day. Unfortunately my latest vintage addition (the ceramic cookie jar on the left) just barely missed Christmas and arrived today. I can’t wait to display him next year. Side note: the ceramic painter did an amazing job on this back in the day. The only other one I see for sale at the moment is a little unsightly.

It’s nice and cold this evening, so we’re eating bowls of chili by the fire. Unfortunately it’s going to be mid-60s on Christmas Day, so we’re enjoying the Christmas-y temps for now.

The fourth Sunday of Advent, and we light the candle of Love. We turn on the evening news, and love is hard to find. We jump onto social media, and love is hard to find there, too. Today at church the pastor reminded us of Numbers 6:24-26, where the Lord spoke to Moses and taught him Aaron’s prayer. I think we would find a lot more love in this world if we prayed this blessing for each other, instead of the hatred we so often see:
