Rich, Saturated Bedroom Design Plan

Hi, there! Today I am sharing a recent bedroom design plan. This design is good for someone that likes to periodically change out their bedding and décor accessories. Let me share why below:

You can find each of these commissionable links by clicking the photo.

In this bedroom design plan I used neutral furniture and window treatments. These furniture pieces are the foundation of a backdrop that allows someone to change out colorful bedding and accessories without having to completely overhaul their room. If you are the type of person that likes to switch things up, I recommend investing in quality, timeless furniture pieces while finding budget friendly bedding and accessories.

To Recap: 1. Keep your furniture and window treatments neutral and timeless. 2. Opt to spend more on furniture and window treatments since you will be using them longest. 3. Choose budget friendly items for things that you might want to switch out seasonally or periodically.

As always, you can find these exact pieces on my LikeTOknow.it page. You can click HERE or click on the picture above to find the commissionable links. Tip: The artwork pieces shown are one-of-a-kind original paintings. If you wish to purchase them, don’t delay!

Guest Room Essentials

Today I am sharing some things that you may want to consider having available for guests when they visit your home. These items show thoughtfulness for your guests’ needs and comforts to make their stay with you enjoyable.

This post includes commissionable links to my LiketoKnow.it to make finding these exact items easier for you. You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

The first group of items I’ve included are ones that help your guests keep their belongings neat and organized so that everything is accessible and nothing gets lost.

  1. A luggage rack. This one that I am featuring has a place for a suitcase on top and a shelf beneath for either a smaller bag or shoes.
You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

2. A robe hook. Placing this hook on the wall near the door will allow guests to hang their robe, a towel, a purse, or a set of keys. The hook keeps items off of the floor and easily reached as guests come or go from the room.

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

3. A valet tray with jewelry space. This valet tray gives your guests a designated spot to place their wallet, keys, or jewelry at the end of the day. No more digging in the bottom of their suitcase; here is a spot for their smaller items.

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

4. These baskets (the ones linked come as a set of two) can be used in a couple of different ways. First, you could leave them empty to let your guests have a place to store things. Alternatively, you could anticipate items that your guests might need like extra washcloths, slippers, magazines, books, reading glasses, etc.

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

The next group of items are for your guests’ convenience.

5. A wireless charger that can accommodate all phone and device types. One of the most forgotten items while traveling are chargers for devices. Your guests will appreciate that you have one available, even if it just means that they can leave their own in their suitcase to avoid forgetting it in your home.

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

6. Providing your guests with your home WiFi password will be greatly appreciated. Posting it on this cute sign means that they don’t have to even bother to ask for it. This lets them know they’re welcome to use it!

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

7. Providing an alarm clock is a nice convenience for guests. This one is especially helpful because guests are able set two separate alarms times, dim the brightness, and more!

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

8. A sound machine can make your guests more comfortable while sleeping away from home. Often nighttime noises are different than guests are used to, and providing white noise can help them sleep. Perhaps the guest bedroom is next to a common bathroom; this sound machine can block unwanted noises outside of the room.

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

9. Even if the ambient temperature of the guest room is comfortable, guests sometimes prefer to sleep with a fan for many reasons. Providing your guests with a fan will show great consideration for their comfort!

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

A few more things you may want to consider for your guests’ stay are:

10. Bedside lamps allow your guests to have light without getting out of bed to turn on or off overhead lighting. A small bedside lamp provides convenient lighting at night or early in the morning. As an added feature, these particular lamps have USB outlets should additional devices need charging. (Set of two linked HERE.)

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

11. The next best thing to having an actual iron in the room is to provide your guests with a travel sized bottle of wrinkle releaser. If you haven’t tried this yet on your own clothes, it’s highly recommended. Wrinkle release spray allows clothes to be smoothed straight in just a few seconds.

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

12. Another commonly forgotten item for guests would be toiletries. These travel sized bottles of bathroom necessities are often appreciated when shampoo and soap have been accidentally left at home.

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

13. This container labeled toiletries is nice to keep the travel sized items in. It let’s your guests know that these items are intended for them to help themselves to if they need them.

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

14. A full length mirror in the room allows your guests to get ready, check their clothing before leaving the room, and fix their hair or makeup. In addition, a mirror will provide light to the room since guest spaces are often smaller ones.

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

15. A waste basket gives your guests a designated space to place trash. It keeps trash off of the floor and out of their suitcases.

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

16. Sheets may perhaps be the most important thing to consider for your guests. Most of their time in the guest room will be spent sleeping. Quality sheets make a lasting impression, give your guests a good night’s sleep, and will often last for decades.

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

You may want to also consider:

17. Small bottles of water. A smaller 8 oz size bottle of purified water will provide an adequate amount of drinking water without leaving a lot of wasted unfinished water bottles. Leave enough water bottles for guests to have one per day. (Be sure to let them know that you’re happy to provide more if they need them!) The baskets shown above are a perfect container for holding water bottles for your guests.

You can click on any picture in this post to find the exact item pictured.

18. Some guests enjoy using an essential oil diffuser. This one may be appreciated by your friends and family.

Even if you are only able to add a few of these touches the next time you have guests, your guests will appreciate your thoughtfulness for their comfort and convenience. If you have items that you would add to this list, join the conversation in the comments to let me know what they are!

Until next time,

Design Plans – Getting Started and Art

Happy Friday! Today I am sharing a few of the design boards that I worked on this week. Sometimes people will tell me they don’t know where to start when decorating a space. It can be especially challenging if you are working with a blank slate and no existing pieces. If you feel stuck, I recommend focusing on picking just one piece of furniture. Once you do that, you can build the other selections around it. For each of the designs below, I started with a statement piece of furniture a desk, a bed, etc. For most of the designs below, I started with a statement piece arm chair. As always, you can click on any picture to find the sources and commissionable links for the items pictured.

First, I wanted to share this home office space below. These pieces are budget-friendly, all from Target. With so many students and people working from home, being organized is super important. Check out these storage solutions.

Click any picture to find commissionable links for the items in that picture.

Next, I’m sharing a bedroom design plan with an English equestrian vibe. Here you can see the bed in green, but it comes in many colors. On top of that, it’s very affordable. I also love this bedding. You will find buffalo check patterns used in designs ranging from modern to country. When you pick a versatile pattern like this one, it makes it easy to switch things out should your design taste or needs change in the future.

Click any picture to find commissionable links for the items in that picture.

Below you will find several design boards with arm chairs that I worked on this week!

Click any picture to find commissionable links for the items in that picture.

Just like in the design plan above, I often link pieces of original or antique artwork from online auctions. You may find that they are gone or sold out if you click on them. The reason that I like to link original artwork is that it makes your space feel more personal and “collected.” No one else in the world will have that piece of art, unless you are buying a print. If the painting pictured has sold, try searching for artwork you like by subject. In this case, “white horse oil painting.”

Click any picture to find commissionable links for the items in that picture.

In the design board above I used the chair as a starting point for a country design. In this design I have used 3 kinds of art: a reproduction print, an original oil painting, and a mass produced new piece. They all work together nicely. This is an option to do if you don’t have a big budget for artwork.

Click any picture to find commissionable links for the items in that picture.

Above is another room option if you are working with a smaller budget. This chair above is highly rated, and the pattern shown is currently on clearance. While the fabric of the chair is a traditional plaid, the frame of the chair is most definitely contemporary. This design could’ve gone in either direction, but in this case I went towards contemporary. You can use your imagination to see how the chair inspired this artwork choice.

The room above features an English cottage style. There is an intentional mix of fabrics in English cottage designs. You can see the block print pillows, which has recently made a huge surge in popularity. You can see a curated collection of these block print pillows, in various price points, later today on my LIKEtoKnow.it.

I hope these design boards are inspirational for you. If you are looking for sources for any of the items pictured, you can click on the picture to find my commissionable links.

Style it Saturdays, May 8, 2021

Welcome to another edition of Style it Saturdays, where I share outfits from the week before! This week I am sharing some office outfits, date night outfits, and outfits perfect to wear as a guest to a wedding. As always, to find and shop for any of the pieces pictured, simply click on any photo to find my commissionable links for those items. Enjoy!

I really love the dress below. Not only is the color beautiful, but it can be dressed up or down depending on what you pair it with. I would definitely wear this to a wedding, but I would also wear it to a casual day out.

This look below is definitely a little more casual than the last one. The dress is light and airy, perfect for a hot summer day. The jacket is relaxed and oversized, so size up or down depending on your personal preference. I’ve also included one of my all-time favorite perfumes and my favorite dry shampoo.

I love the crisp, bold contrast of the outfit below. The black against the white is perfectly pulled together by this unique bag. I would wear this to dinner with my husband or out to brunch with friends.

Here’s another one-shoulder look that is perfect for warm weather. This top is fun and classy with the jungle print and striped neckline.

I love this dress below to wear to a wedding or event. You could add a blazer and wear it to the office, too. It’s a classic combination of French blue and black. It’s a piece that can stay in your wardrobe forever. I love how the pleats in the clutch compliment the dress.

Here’s another blue dress below. This color is definitely on-trend this year! I love the cut on this one. It can add curves if you need some, but it is also flattering if you have curves already. For this look I’ve gone with a neutral shoe and bag. The block heel on the shoes are very comfortable if you will be spending a lot of time on your feet.

For the last look this week I am sharing some of my favorite workout pieces. If you follow me on Instagram you know that I have RAVED about these leggings for a long time. They were discontinued at one point, but they are back and in multiple colors. I have four pairs in black, and I just added this pink pair below. Ladies, you need these. The top of the leggings don’t roll down. The pockets are perfect to hold your phone. I wear these every day! The running shoes are the only brand that my family wears. They provide the perfect amount of support and room in the toe box of the shoe. Some of us have wide feet and others have narrow feet – these shoes work for all of us!

Until next time…have a great weekend!

It’s almost summer! Here are a few bathing suit ensembles for you. Bathing suits don’t stay in stores very long, so don’t wait too long before you grab one.

I’ve shown this dress before, but I just wanted to show what it looked like on. There are functional buttons and pockets. It’s the perfect traveling dress because it can be styled multiple ways. Roll it up correctly, and you can pull it right out of your suitcase ready to go!

I wanted to show this dress below, because there are multiple ways to style it if you remove the belt that comes with it. Using one of the other belts shown makes it look a little more polished and expensive than it actually is.

A Quick Tour of Historic Homes in Madison, Georgia

Madison, Georgia is a convenient meeting spot for when we want to meet our son, Jackson, for dinner or drop something off without driving all the way to his little college town. Madison is a tiny little city east of Atlanta, easily accessible by I-20 or GA HWY 441. It was spared the wrath of Sherman on his march to Savannah. (Did he really have to burn EVERYTHING?) And it is a stunning showcase of many styles of homes, not just the typical Greek Revival architecture that you’d expect to find in the deep south.

After meeting up with Jackson in Madison this weekend I decided to park and take a stroll to get some pictures to share. The weather was absolutely perfect, and to top it off, the azaleas were in high bloom. Serendipitous! Enjoy my photos below, and be sure to check out the 20th annual Madison Antiques Show & Sale May 20-22, 2021.

How To Arrange a Grocery Store Bouquet of Flowers

Well, I’ve been saying for a while now over on my Instagram that I would give some pointers on arranging flowers. The problem is that every time I start to do so, it turns out to be way too long for Instagram stories or Reels. One day I’ll get around to make an IGTV or YouTube video. For today I thought I would give some basic tips for arranging a grocery store bouquet of flowers, which can sometimes be the most frustrating to arrange.

Tip #1 Cutting

You never want to unwrap your grocery store bouquet of flowers and just plop them into a vase of water. Not only do each and every one of the stems need a fresh snip so that they can drink water, the flowers aren’t meant to all be the same height. You will want to cut some shorter or taller so that your arrangement has shape and all of the flowers can be seen.

Tip #2 Focal Point

Speaking of cutting flowers, you will want to decide which flower or flowers you want to be the focal point. That flower will need to be one of 3 places: bottom and center, middle and center, or top and center. Unwrap your grocery store bouquet and separate out what you have. Usually grocery store bouquets will give you only one of a special flower, and that flower is meant to be the focal point. In my picture and video you can see that the white hydrangea is the focal point. That was the only flower in the bouquet that there was only one of.

Tip #3 The right size vase

If you find that your grocery store bouquet looks very sparse in your vase, try finding a smaller container to use as a vase. Teapots, vintage drinking glasses, and even small pitchers make great alternative vases. If your arrangement is too big for your vase, try turning it into several smaller arrangements. Another option is to use multiple bouquets to fill up a vase.

Tip #4 Keeping them alive and fresh

Usually bouquets come with a little packet of flower food to add to the water in the vase. I usually only use half of the packet and save the other half in a baggie. After a couple of days, change out the water in the vase and use the other half of the flower food packet. My number one tip for keeping your flowers fresh is to make sure there is nothing but stems below the water line – no leaves, no flowers, no greenery of any kind. This will keep your flowers fresh longer!

Here’s a quick time-lapse video of me arranging this grocery store bouquet!

Americana Interior Design style

Today I want to share with you a little about the interior design style called “Americana.” Americana style has made an enormous surge in popularity this year. But make no mistake, it is a classic design style and never really goes out of style.

Americana interior design
You can click this photo to shop the commissionable links for the items pictured.

What is Americana? Americana is actually quite a broad category of interior design. It can encompass everything from coastal Nantucket to Native American to colonial farmhouse styles. Sometimes you will find touches of each of them crossing over to each other.

This is a new kitchen made to look old. Source for photo HERE.

Americana styles of furniture can be both rough and rustic and also lean towards early American styles. You will often find a mixture of dark wood stains with some painted wood pieces. You won’t often find light wood tones in the Americana style. Americana furniture lines will almost always be very traditional rather than contemporary.

Fabrics in the Americana style will also be traditional. Southwest Americana designs often mix leather and fabrics featuring Native American designs. Coastal and farmhouse Americana styles often use grain sack, ticking, natural unbleached fibers, and chambray or denim.

Source for photo HERE.

When decorating in the Americana style, American and state flag motifs are often used on accent pieces and artwork. Other patriotic symbols can be used as well. Rugs are often made of hides or natural fiber materials.

Photo source: Pinterest. Original source unknown.

Overall, Americana is a casual, lived-in interior design style. These spaces are inviting and relaxing.

Ralph Lauren is one example of a designer with Americana style interiors. You can find many of his Americana interior design images on Pinterest or Google. Below are three books that I recommend if you are interested in seeing and learning more about Americana interior design. You can click on the captions to purchase them through Amazon or you can find them on my LiketoKnow.it HERE.

Spring capsule wardrobe

Style It Saturdays, April 17, 2021

Hi! It’s time for Style it Saturdays, where I show you a round-up of outfits from the week before. As always, you can shop any of these looks through my commissionable links. Just click any of the photos, and you will be taken directly to the outfit on my LiketoKnow.it page.

First up I want to show you a spring capsule wardrobe. Just in case you aren’t familiar with what a capsule wardrobe is, it’s a wardrobe where you only use a few basic pieces for the entire season. Throughout the season you will mix and match them to create hundreds of possible outfits. Check out this one that I’ve created below. Layers are important in spring when daily temperatures can fluctuate drastically. These layers also make it possible to create quite a few different looks. Depending on which combinations you use, there are many dressy or casual styles that you can create with these pieces.

For this next look I have used classic black and white with a pop of color. A lot of businesses will allow their employees to wear denim as long as there are no rips. These white denim pants, combined with the black shirt, are great from going from work to dinner. It would also be a great date night look.

Memorial Day will be here in a few weeks, so I’m sharing an outfit that you can wear to your BBQ or picnic. This look can work for Fourth of July and casual weddings, too.

For this next look I put together a fun, flirty option for what you could wear to attend a summer wedding.

Today I am throwing in a look for the guys. Sometimes when it gets warm my husband and I want to go eat dinner on a restaurant patio. My husband want to look nice, but doesn’t want to spend the evening sweating. This is a great look that he’ll be wearing this summer.
